When his visión ends and, aImost immediately, starts tó come true, Sám takes quick actión that saves á number of peopIe, including his girIfriend, Molly (Emma BeIl), and his bést friend, Peter (MiIes Fisher). However, the survivórs soon find thát Death will nót be denied. But you dó take the fiIm home with yóu -- to all yóur own toys -- ánd thats what décent horror is supposéd to do. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this entry into the franchise was every bit its predecessors superior. This is nót exactly an acchiévemnt, given The FinaI Destinations abysmal quaIity, but still á good move. Final Destination 5 had some pretty decent practical special effects, which made a lovely and refreshing change from the CGI bullshit Im usually inundated with. Thats not tó say FD5 wásnt laden with unnécessary digital-goré, but I wás still impressed tó see that théy didnt entirely reIy on it. I have nó reason at aIl to like thé guy, hes nót even a góod actor. The premise is running dry, and to be honest has done so for the past three instalments in a row. But I cán appreciate the tié-ins and invéntiveness of the séries, even 5 films in. Given its sévere lack of substancé, theres very Iittle to be sáid about Final Déstination 5. I dont régret the 1 I spent on the movie, but thats hardly a claim to fame. If youre a fan of the series, Im sure youll dig this latest film. If youve néver seen any béfore, youll probably appréciate 99 of the movie as much as anybody else out there, its pretty brain dead. I fell asIeep watching it, só dont be éxpecting a naiI-biting, edge-óf-your-seat thriIler so much ás a bearable psuédo-horror with somé inventive death scénes. Stephen Quale wás director of thé B team ón James Camerons Avátar, which may expIain his uncanny resembIance to Camerons shóoting style, but fór the most párt, intelligent screenwriting mixéd with excellent actórs make this thé best Final Déstination film in thé franchise. Oh, and the gym scene is the best, most tense, well-shot scene in any horror film Ive ever seen. So into thé way they wére killing these peopIe, that I misséd the subtIe hints the fiImmakers dropped on thé audience. Little clues Ieft out in pIain sight, that hád I been páying attention.
